My friends, we are born with strong urges which are good for us. We become hungry because we need nutrition in order to be healthy and live good lives. We become sexually potent because male and female, together, need to bring forth new human life to replace us and to continue to support human life as we know it. But, we often get lured away by pleasure (which is accidental and passing) and lose our focus on life (which is essential and eternal).
For want of more pleasure, the pleasure seekers devise diet pills (which I will term as “artificial contra-nutritives” ) which allow other pleasure seekers to taste and eat large, rich portions without getting obese. Artificial contra-nutritives enable eating disorders which starve our bodies of life-giving nutrition. They rob us of a healthy and vibrant life and expose us to diseases which normal nutrition and normal eating habits would prevent. The pleasure seekers kill themselves for the sake of worshipping the god of pleasure instead of loving and worshipping the God of Life.
For want of more pleasure, the pleasure seekers devise birth control pills (which are called “artificial contraceptives”) which allow other pleasure seekers to have sexual relations often without getting pregnant. Artificial contraceptives enable sexual disorders which prevent or kill new human life. They rob us of the familial dignity of trusting, natural spousal relationships and of virtuous motherhood and fatherhood and the joy of nurturing and experiencing new human life. Artificial contraceptives expose us to a licentious attitude of “sex anywhere with anybody simply for pleasure” which leads to the degrading of persons into sexual objects and the brutally unbiased transmission of sexually-transmitted diseases which would never appear in a virtue-based, sexually-monogamous, caring spousal relationship. The pleasure seekers kill their offspring for the sake of worshipping the god of pleasure instead of loving and worshipping the God of Life.
Here are the “Pleasure Seekers,” co-architects of the “culture of death” who worshipped the god of pleasure and who taught others to do so in the 20th Century. It would be a mistake to follow their teachings. [see De Marco and Wiker, Architects of the Culture of Death (San Francisco, CA: Ignatius Press, 2004) for more on the Pleasure Seekers and other types / lives of the architects of the Culture of Death (as defined by Pope Bl. John Paul II)]. Follow instead the architects of the Culture of Life, who worship the God of Life.
May the only God, the God of Life look upon their ignorance and their very poor family situations and have mercy on their souls:
